After a long season, the day of the last regular trip arrived.
A small island with a big history
Get a glimpse of Grip´s unique past
The fishing village Grip
In the 16th century, Grip was the largest settlement in Nordmøre.
The island was first owned by the Catholic Church, then by the Danish/Norwegian king, then by a number of private owners, before Grip became its own municipality in 1909 - Norway's smallest, until Grip in 1964 became part of Kristiansund.
Grip has the world's northernmost original stave church. If you follow the tour with our guides, you will hear more about Grip today, and in earlier times.

When can I go to Grip?
You can travel to Grip all year round, but we only provide daily transportation to the island during the summer season. Departures from Kristiansund city center from May 19 to September 17, 2023. Guiding and entrance to the stave church are included in the ticket price.
-
How do I buy tickets for Gripruta?
TicketsTo be guaranteed a spot, you should purchase your ticket online.
You can also buy tickets on board. In July, it is best to book your ticket online, as there is a high likelihood that the boat will be fully booked if you show up without a ticket.
-
Is there a possibility for wheelchair use?
Yes, we have wheelchair access on Gripruta. We recommend that you contact us in advance to double check the dimensions of your wheelchair. In addition, it gives us the opportunity to check sea level (high tides), as this can cause problems.
-
Do you have discounts on ticket prices?
Unfortunately, we do not have any discounts on our tickets, but children's tickets (6-17 years) are almost half the price of adult tickets. Children under 6 travel free when accompanied by adults.
-
Do you sell food and drinks on the boat?
Yes, we offer simple refreshments on Gripruta, including coffee, soft drinks, wine, and beer. We also sell the "Kvikk lunch" choclate and lefse.
Grip cafe - Gripkroa - is open when the Gripruta ferry is on the island. Hot meals are served during the high season. Otherwise, we offer coffee, sweet and savory snacks, and drinks. Full license.
-
Can I bring pets or a bicycle?
Bicycles are welcome. Please note that there is only about 500 meters of road on Grip. Pets are allowed if they are transported in a cage or carrier. Any exceptions are decided by the crew. We remind you to keep your dog on a leash and be aware of the challenges dogs can pose to the birdlife on Grip. Dogs are not allowed inside the stave church or the inn.
-
What happens if the weather is bad?
Here in Western Norway, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes, as the saying goes. "MS Kvikk" is a former ambulance boat and can withstand strong gusts of wind and high waves. The crossing takes only 35 minutes. We put passengers' comfort and safety first, and cancel if the weather is too bad. In such cases, we will refund your ticket or you can rebook it for another day, depending on what you want.
-
Where can I park?
There is no free parking near Gripruta, but we can recommend parking at Gassverktomta by the Kulturfabrikken in Vågen, or in the Storkaia parking garage. Gassverktomta has cheaper long-term parking, but it is longer to walk to Piren, where the Gripruta departs.
